World Environment Day celebrated at MM University
MM University takes initiative to build a pollution free environment
On the World’s Environment Day, the Civil Engineering Department of Maharishi Markandeshwar University Mullana, organized a one day workshop on “Rain water harvesting”. Many renowned personalities like Er. D.K. Soni, Chief Engineer Haryana Urban Development Authority as the guest of honour, Mr. Ashok Kumar, Managing Director of Diplast Industries Limited, Mr. S.R. Debnath from Reliance Industries limited and Mr. Baldev Chugh from Water solutions Limited were present at the conference. The chief guest, Dr. S.G. Damle, Vice Chancellor of the University said “water conservation through rain water harvesting is a cost effective and environmentally safe technology and emphasis should also be laid on waste water recycling also.” Er. D.K. Soni, Chief Engineer, also presented the data on various blocks of Haryana, and the works done on rainwater harvesting in different parts of district Panchkula.
Keynote speaker Dr Baldev Setia, Chairman, Civil Engineering Department, NIT Kurukshetra also encouraged the participants to adopt rainwater harvesting and suggested simple design parameters. Dr. N.P. Mehta, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the university, concluded the workshop by stressing on the need to combat with the global issues like global warming and deforestation. Dr. Damle and Dr. Mehta congratulated the coordinators of the workshop, Dr. Vikas Garg and Er. Upain Bhatia and appreciated them for successfully carrying out the proceedings of the workshop. Mr. Ashok Kumar, Mr. S.R. Debnath and Mr. Baldev Chugh also shared their experiences with eighty two participants from various institutions of M.M. University, Mullana.
Mr Tarsem Garg, Chancellor MM University commended the teachers on taking initiative towards such a cause and said “it is a small effort by MM University to generate awareness amongst the masses to address the burning issue of water shortage and thus will be helpful for the future generations as well”.
