UK: Tackling the Causes: Employee Assistance Programme launched 12th May 2009
(NewDesignWorld Press Release Center) -- Safety & Health Expo 2009, Birmingham NEC, 12 -14 May
At this year’s Safety and Health Expo, Concateno, Europe’s largest provider of Drug and Alcohol testing services, will be launching the Employee Assistance Programme, a dedicated telephone and online helpline service to help companies support staff facing health and life challenges.
The suite of services offered as part of the Concateno Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) will support the company’s existing range of drug and alcohol testing services and is seen as an important component to any strategy to address abuse or dependency issues:
“It’s vital to remember that drug and alcohol abuse is often the result of other factors in an employee’s personal or working life,” said Neil James, Concateno’s head of sales for the workplace. “Identifying the problem through testing is vital to back up a company’s drugs and alcohol policy, and employee care is best achieved through a holistic approach that offers support to individuals to better cope with the situations that could lead to alcohol or drug problems in the first place.
Concateno’s Employee Assistance Programme offers employers a confidential service that combines online advice with seven day a week, 24-hour phone assistance, offering help on a range of issues such as financial concerns, bereavement and family problems. It aims to answer questions immediately, or refer enquirers to the most appropriate advisor, counsellor or source of information.
“We’ve been very excited by the enormously positive response from our clients who have been using this service and we anticipate a good deal of interest at Safety and Health Expo.“ Neil added.
This advice service is free to employees and can help staff prepare for and cope successfully with major life events – the things that could potentially cause anxiety and stress. The Employee Assistance Programme will be offered either as a supplementary service to other drug and alcohol testing services from Concateno or as a standalone service.
At Safety & Health Expo, Concateno will also be showcasing a range of testing solutions for alcohol and drug testing, including interactive exhibits that will help explain the impacts of alcohol consumption and also demonstrate its detection. Neil James explains:
“One of the greatest challenges in enforcing drug and alcohol policy is communication and education. At our stand, we’ll be drawing attention to how companies can help raise awareness as to how units of alcohol consumed can impact performance. We’ll also have a fun demo showing alcohol detection, but don’t worry – alcohol will be provided using a breath freshening spray, so our visitors will remain in good shape for the rest of the expo!”
Over eight million tests are conducted through Concateno’s drug and alcohol services annually, from return to lab analysis through to on-site screen testing, for regulated industries such as railway transport and maritime, through to commerce, construction and manufacturing. Government contracts include the Home Office Drug Intervention Programme and over 85% of the UK Police forces rely on Concateno for their workforce and pre-employment testing. It comprises the highest range of quality accreditations and each of its three centres of laboratory excellence in London, Cardiff and Oxfordshire, are audited regularly by UKAS.
Concateno will be exhibiting on stand number F62 in Hall 1.
