OpenAire Holiday Fundraising Drive Raises $5,550 for Kerr Street Ministries
(NewDesignWorld Press Release Center) -- Oakville, ON, January 12, 2011 -- This past holiday season, OpenAire’s 40+ employees opened up their hearts and their wallets to people in need, raising $5,500 for Kerr Street Ministries, a local organization that offers community programs for the city’s most vulnerable citizens.
Based in Oakville, OpenAire designs, manufactures and installs custom large-scale retractable roofs, operable skylights and retractable enclosures for aquatic facilities, community centers, health clubs, waterparks and more with installations all over the world.
The company chose an organization that really benefited Oakville’s local population. Kerr Street Ministries provides support and care for children, youth and low income families. They serve over 5,000 people and offer a variety of programs including a food bank, a drop-in program, a kids and me program, and pre-natal, after-school and computer programs, just to name a few.
“Our fundraising drive is now in its tenth year,” says Deborah Baker, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer, OpenAire. “It has been tremendously satisfying to be able to contribute to the community where we live and work – we hope this donation will help those who truly need it. Everyone here played a role in raising these funds, and we’re very proud of our employees and the tremendous effort they put into this year’s drive. And we’d also like to thank our suppliers for making the event a success – they donated some great prizes for the raffle and silent auction.”
This year’s fundraising drive raised $2,774 all from employee contributions, and included a number of activities such as 50/50 draws, raffles and silent auctions. OpenAire matched the contributions dollar for dollar, for a grand total of $5,550.
On December 23rd, company representatives delivered the funds – along with three boxes of food for the food bank and $200 in grocery store gift certificates – to the Kerr Street Ministries.
“All of us here are so fortunate,” says Baker. “We’ve had a successful year. So, in the spirit of the season, we’re happy to share that success and hope we’ve made a small difference in the lives of our neighbours.”
