Drew Levin announces TMC’s new faith-based programming division

Emmy-winning producer Drew Levin of TMC Mediaworks announced today the formation of TMC Faith, the company’s new subsidiary dedicated to packaging and producing its extensive slate of PBS faith-based specials and series. The division’s initial property, “The Route to Christianity: From Christ to Constantine” will air on PBS in the Spring of 2010 as a 6-hour event mini-series.

The series continues the successful format of TMC’s critically-acclaimed PBS ratings winner “Walking the Bible” by bringing biblical stories to vivid life through a historical/archeological approach that uses actual locations and indigenous people who still appear and live much as they did over 2000 years ago.

Slated to air in Fall of 2010 and Spring of 2011 respectively are two additional event mini-series, “The Four Witnesses” and “Women of the Bible.”

“The Four Witnesses” is based on Robin Griffith-Jones award-winning book on the four gospel writers Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Griffith-Jones is the Master of the Temple Church in London, made famous by its use in the hit movie “The Da Vinci Code.” This important book and program puts to rest the idea that the gospels are contradictory and demonstrates that they are in fact complementary.

“Women of the Bible” is a three episode mini-series with the first hour dealing with the women of the Old Testament such as Sarah and Hagar, the second exploring the women of the New Testament including Mary Magdalene, and the third hour looking into the lives of some of the Bible’s most interesting characters, its “Bad Girls” such as Jezebel and Salome.

Co-producing the TMC Faith roster are PBS veterans Palladin Productions of the UK. The director is Bill Cran and the series writer is Ben Loeterman.

“By folding these shows into our new division,” CEO Drew Levin says, “TMC is creating a brand that will fully leverage the ratings and marketing momentum of ‘Walking the Bible’.”
