Concateno supports Brake in providing alcohol and drug safety guidance August 19th 2009

(NewDesignWorld Press Release Center) -- Concateno, Europe’s most experience drug and alcohol testing company, is supporting Brake, the road safety charity, in raising awareness of the dangers of drink and drug driving.
Concateno has co-sponsored a new guidance sheet, entitled ‘Not a drop, not a drag ’, produced by Brake in association with the Department for Transport. Aimed at fleet managers, the guidance sheet provides practical advice and case studies to help organisations educate their drivers as to the risks of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The sheet also offers management guidance on introducing an effective drugs and alcohol policy, covering best practice on employee consultation and education, the role of drug or alcohol tests and an explanation of employers’ rights with regard to testing.
‘Not a drop, not a drag’ is also the theme for Road Safety Week (23-29 November), Brake’s flagship annual event to stimulate community involvement in promoting road safety awareness. In 2009, Road Safety Week aims to drive awareness of drink and drug driving and the guidance sheet for fleet managers has been produced to coincide with the campaign.
“We’re proud to be supporting Brake and Road Safety Week. It’s a campaign of crucial importance, and very relevant to our work at Concateno,” said Graham Sievers, communications manager, Concateno. “As a provider of drug and alcohol testing, we play a role in helping businesses address the problems created by substance misuse, but testing is not in itself enough to make an anti drink or drugs policy a success. Testing should always be backed by clear education: It’s far better to help employees understand the risks better and have their active support for the policy. This is why Brake’s role in providing guidance to fleet managers is so valuable.”
“Concateno has provided this year’s campaign with important support by sponsoring the new guidance sheet,” said Brake spokesperson Katie Shephard. “It’s a good partnership, because both our organisations are keen to promote a collaborative approach to road safety. We describe Road Safety Week as ‘an initiative by Brake and everyone’, because safer roads can only be achieved collectively. Road crashes can have a devastating impact on businesses, communities and individuals alike. Road Safety Week encourages activity across the board – from fleet managers educating their drivers, to community-based projects to improve safety at local level.”
Road Safety Week 2009 runs from 23-29 November and is a national campaign run by Brake, the road safety charity. With our own best-in-class products and facilities that can supply across the whole range of test requirements, our strategy is driven by customer need rather than product benefit.
