Taj Hotel is on fire flames surround Mumbai in Terrorist attacks
(NewDesignWorld Press Release Center) 27 November 2008m, Mumbai -- The famous Taj Hotel set a blaze in the midst of terror attacks.

At least 78 people have been killed and hundreds wounded in a series of attacks by terrorist gunmen at seven sites in Mumbai, including two luxury hotels.

Johnny Joseph, chief secretary for the Maharashtra state of India, said at least 78 people died and an estimated 200 were injured. He warned the death toll could rise further.

Gunmen opened fire on two of the city's best known Luxury hotels, the Taj Mahal and the Oberoi. They also attacked the crowded Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus station in southern Mumbai and Leopold's restaurant, a Mumbai landmark.

It was not immediately clear what the motive was for the attacks.

Indian TV reports claimed Westerners had been taken hostage.

But senior police officer AN Roy said: "No hostages have been taken but there are guests in the Taj and the Oberoi hotel and we are trying to reach them."

A British Euro-MP was among guests forced to flee fire in their Mumbai hotel.

North West Tory MEP Sajjad Karim, speaking from a basement room at Taj Mahal Palace in the Indian capital, said he had no idea why the hotel was targeted.

Leopold's restaurant was riddled with bullet holes and there were blood stains on the floor and shoes left by fleeing customers, according to an Associated Press reporter at the scene.

Many of the casualties were taken to the GT Hospital near the shootings, said hospital official Yogesh Pandey.
