Bollywood Storms Into Fox TV’s Dance Show
HOLLYWOOD,CA - Bollywood continues to make impressive strides into mainstream America and in the last fortnight it went national when it was performed as one of the categories in the hugely popular Dance Competition “So you think You Can Dance” on the Fox network.

The show was at a critical stage on July 9 when the remaining dozen contestants were fighting to for a place in the final 10 and Katee Shean and Joshua Allen had drawn “Bollywood” as their category. In shots of rehearsals with choreographer Nakul Dev Mahajan, Founder and Artistic Director of NDM Dance Production and Studios, the couple confessed they had no idea whatsoever what Bollywood is. It is to the credit of the dancers and Mahajan that in a matter of days he was able to groom them into a professional looking team which won the hearts of not only the judges but also the huge TV audience throughout the country.

Not being familiar with the intricacies of Bollywood dance culture the judges, all experts in classical and modern western dance forms, could hardly comment on the technical merits or faults of the young dancers but they were obviously blown away by the spectacle. Mia Michaels told them “That was a great piece” while the effervescent Mary Murphy crowned them with “You guys are stars tonight.” Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe could hardly contain his excitement labeling the performance as “brilliant.”

Dancing to the song “Dhoom Tana” from ‘Om Shanti Om’ the pair put on a sparkling display which prompted the voting audience to keep them safely out of the dreaded bottom three and possible elimination on the following day’s results show.

Their performance also sparked a huge demand for a repeat Bollywood item and the producers readily complied with a stunning introductory number from the title song ‘Jhoom Barabar Jhoom’ by the top ten finalists on July 17 at the start of the show.

The host of the show Cat Deeley made her entrance welcoming artists clad in splendidly colorful film costumes with the compliment, “Thank you Nakul, that was an amazing routine” while a beaming Mahajan took a bow.
