Nokia Adds New section to Calling All Innovators Contest, 2009

To give those mobile application developers who specialize in map and location awareness applications a chance to compete in Calling all Innovators (www.callingallinnovators.com) contest Nokia has added “Apps on Maps” category to this contest.

Through this category Nokia challenges developers to create innovative ideas for location aware services on Ovi Maps, which may be developed into apps simply using web technology such as HTML, CSS and Javascript. Whatever the theme of the application – it could be entertainment, travel, gaming, news or B2B – it should create an experience that’s relevant and compelling for the users, wherever they are in the world.

Judging criteria

A panel of judges will review all of the contest entries, and choose the finalists and winners according to the following criteria:

• Quality / Functionality: the application or service must be fully functional and run successfully on Nokia devices and platforms (S60 and/or Series 40).
• Uniqueness, novelty value and innovativeness: display creativity in applications, use established technology in a unique way.
• Usability / Creativity: leverage latest technologies to demonstrate superior design and ease of use (UI, graphics, etc.)
• Commercial Viability / Market Potential: ability to fulfill users' needs, customer adoption

Awards

The top three submissions in this category will receive cash and prizes that include:

• Grand Prize winner: $30,000 USD in cash; "Spotlight" placement featuring the winning application for 4 weeks on the top page of Nokia's newly announced Ovi Store, where consumers will find the best mobile applications and content for their Nokia devices; and paid travel to demo the winning application at a Nokia-specified event in the Fall 2009.
