Drew S. Levin announces ramp-up to PBS series pre-production
Emmy-winning producer Drew S, Levin of TMC Mediaworks Ltd announced today that pre-production has commenced on the company’s 6-hour PBS mini-series “The Route to Christianity” (RTC). Produced in conjunction with the BBC and Germany’s ZDF the series will be event television with worldwide viewership.
The initial two hours of RTC are “The Journeys of Paul” and chronicle his transition from Saul of Tarsus, persecutor of Christians, to Paul, Apostle to the gentiles and perhaps the greatest apostle of them all. Using actual locations, many much as they were then, the series retraces Paul’s steps on his first, second and third missionary journeys, as well as his final and fatal journey to Rome as a prisoner.
The following four hours are “From Christ to Constantine” which explore the rise of the young faith as it grows from the small churches that Paul founded in Turkey and Greece to its spread throughout the Roman world. The series reveals the horror of a series of Roman persecutions of the Christians, and their incredible courage as they clung to their beliefs in the face of torture and grizzly executions in the Roman amphitheaters.
Finally, the series takes us inside Rome to witness the political turmoil of the era as their world is first divided into Eastern and Western Empires, then reunited by Constantine under the banner of Christianity. We meet Constantine’s mother and see the incredible sites she attempted to preserve and protect such as the Church of the Nativity.
Slated to air in Spring of 2010, “Route to Christianity” follows TMC’s successful paradigm proven by the critical acclaim, high ratings and record DVD sales of its predecessor “Walking the Bible.”
“Our paradigm for biblical programming,” says Executive Producer Drew S. Levin, “is to tell our stories by retracing the journeys of our characters to actual locations, many of which are still in surprisingly good.”
In addition to RTC, Drew S. Levin has additional programming slated for PBS broadcast next year, both in the biblical/archeological field and in music.
