London Sash Window Repair Company Estimates 30 Million Sash Windows in the UK are Damaged
(NewDesignWorld Press Release Center) -- London, UK, March 19, 2009 -- Sash Windows are the attractive windows often found in Victorian or Georgian properties and to many are much more fashionable than modern double glazing. They do however suffer from neglect and millions of sash windows in the UK are in dire need of repair or replacements.
Andy Williamson, MD of A Sash Window Wizard says: “Many suffer from conditions such as broken sash cords, being out of balance, draughts, rattles, being insecure or often painted shut. They can be relatively easily repaired though many window companies will recommend replacing these damaged sash windows with expensive modern equivalents which are unnecessary and quite often detract from the property.”
The most common causes for repair of sash windows include rot, swelling or distortion of the woodwork, rattling in the wind (due to wood shrinkage), and problems brought on by the careless application of paint. The sliding mechanism makes sash windows more vulnerable to these problems than traditional casement windows.
As well as obviously saving on heating bills sash window repair also reduces noise and airbourne dust pollution and ensures the smooth and secure running of the sashes.
In addition to their aesthetic value the UK’s sash windows are worth saving as they provide efficient cooling of interiors during warm weather. Opening the top and the bottom of a sash window allows warm air at the top of the room to escape, thus drawing relatively cool air from outside into the room through the bottom opening.
