United's Flight to Haiti Departs Tomorrow
(NewDesignWorld Press Release Center) -- CHICAGO, United Airlines continues its support of the earthquake relief effort in Haiti with a flight on Wednesday between Chicago O’Hare and Port-au-Prince. United is transporting 15,000 pounds of water donated by Walgreens, 384 sleeping tents from Feed the Children and communications equipment from Airline Ambassadors. On the flight United is also carrying relief workers from some of the above organizations as well as Edge Outreach, Ramopo Haitian Task Force and World Vision. Returning to Chicago on the evening of January 20, United will be transporting people from Haiti to the United States. This is the first of up to 30 flights that United will operate between Haiti and the U.S.
“These flights will deliver thousands of pounds of food, water and necessary medical supplies to our neighbors in Haiti who are in great need,” said Sonya Jackson, president of the United Airlines Foundation. “Providing our aircraft to transport these much-needed resources to Haiti will save lives and help the country recover from the effects of the earthquake while bringing those who wish to leave the devastated area to the U.S.”
In a separate initiative, United customers and employees may earn United Mileage Plus® redeemable bonus** miles by contributing to the relief effort. United will reward a one-time 500-mile bonus to individuals who contribute $50 U.S. dollar or more directly to any one of the four organizations: American Red Cross, Airline Ambassadors, Clinton Bush Haiti Relief Fund and Operation USA. United will contribute up to 5 million miles to support this bonus mile offer. To receive this mileage award, participating customers should e-mail a copy of their donation receipt and Mileage Plus number to haitimileagebonus@united.com.
For Mileage Plus members and employees who would like to donate miles instead of cash, they can do so through United’s nonprofit relief partners that are part of the Charity Miles program.
