Bhootnath
Cert: PG, Comedy, 120 mins
Stars: Emraan Hashmi, Shahrukh Khan
Director: Vivek Sharma

Comedy about a family who move in to their new house unaware of the fact that it’s haunted. At first, the ghost and the family don’t get on - but they soon discover how they can help each other.

THE DARK KNIGHT

The Dark Knight
Cert: 12, Action, 145 mins
Stars: Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Michael Caine
Director: Christopher Nolan
English/Japanese dual language, English with Chinese subtitles, English with Arabic subtitles

Imagine the best superhero film you’ve ever seen crossed with the tautest crime drama. Well, here it is, as Batman (Bale) teams up with commissioner Gordon (Oldman) to rid Gotham of organised crime. Trouble is, there’s a new mastermind on the rise: the Joker, as played by Ledger in a stunning final performance.

THE FALL

The Fall
Cert: 15, Fantasy, 117 mins
Stars: Lee Pace, Catinca Untaru, Justine Waddell
Director: Tarsem Singh

A surreal, dark fantasy about a paralysed, suicidal stuntman (Pace) who while in hospital spins a story for a little girl in exchange for morphine. As he recounts his tale it comes alive on screen, told in scenes of jaw-dropping beauty - the effects of which will change both of their lives forever. It’s a heartbreaking, uplifting, but foremost beautiful film - one to fall in love with.

JOURNEY TO THE CENTRE OF THE EARTH

Journey to the Centre of the Earth
Cert: PG, Adventure, 93 mins
Stars: Brendan Fraser, Josh Hutcherson, Anita Briem
Director: Eric Brevig
English language

A scientist (Fraser) takes his nephew to Iceland on a quest to locate the youngster’s long-lost father. Going underground they find themselves trapped in a cave - so decide to tunnel further, all the way to the earth’s core. A thrilling adventure for all the family.

THE MAGIC HOUR

The Magic Hour
Cert: PG, Adventure, 136 mins
Stars: Satoshi Tsumabuki, Koichi Sato, Fukatsu Eri

A hustler who gets in trouble with a gang boss agrees to make good with the don by putting him in contact with a mysterious hitman - but instead hires an actor to play the role.

MAMMA MIA

Mamma Mia
Cert: PG, Musical, 109 mins
Stars: Meryl Streep, Pierce Bronson, Colin Firth
Director: Colin Firth
English/Japanese dual language, English with Chinese subtitles

The West End smash featuring the songs of Abba is here adapted for the big screen - where it’s been a massive hit. Word of mouth has had audiences flocking to this tale of a woman inviting three men, each of whom could be her father, to her wedding. Needless to say, the songs are brilliant, but it packs an emotional wallop, too.

MODUPE TEMI

Modupe Temi
Cert: PG, Drama, 93 mins

Nigerian film involving just two characters - a man and his wife - and the complexities that make up their relationship, played out through arguments and conversations.

PARTNERS: THE MOVIE

Partners - The Movie
Cert: 12, Action, 118 mins

STEP BROTHERS

Step Brothers
Cert: 15, Comedy, 98 mins
Stars: Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Richard Jenkins
Director: Adam McKay

Two slackers in their early forties (Ferrell and Reilly) end up living with one another as step brothers. Needless to say, they hate each other, but as their behaviour threatens to tear the family apart, they come up with a plan to bring their respective parents back together. Very, very funny indeed.

TROPIC THUNDER

Tropic Thunder
Cert: 15, Comedy, 107mins
Stars: Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Robert Downey Jnr
Director: Ben Stiller
English/Japanese dual language

Seated in the director’s chair for the first time since the cult classic Zoolander, Ben Stiller also stars in this critically acclaimed comedy about vain actors forced to film in a real-life jungle. Imagine Platoon, except with fart gags and a truly memorable cameo by Tom Cruise.

WALL-E

Wall-E
Cert: U, Family, 98 mins
Voices of: Fred Willard, Jeff Garlin, Ben Burtt
Director: Andrew Stanton
English/Japanese dual language, English with Chinese subtitles, English with Arabic subtitles

Can Pixar do no wrong? Every release is greeted with rapturous praise from critics and audiences, and this, their latest title is no different. Wall-E is all alone on Earth, but on meeting a visiting robot his fortunes change and life seems to have a meaning. Funny, bewitching and thought provoking, in fact, it’s a watershed in the world of animated movies.

WANTED

Wanted
Cert: 18, Action, 110 mins
Stars: James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman, Angelina Jolie
Director: Timur Bekmambetov

Sexy, stylish and fast-moving action movie with McAvoy starring as a office worker unaware that he’s a super-assassin in the making. Director: Dennis Gansel
German with English subtitles

Provocative, eye-opening film about a teacher’s experiment to demonstrate life under a dictatorship. It spins horribly out of control when he forms a social unit with a sinister life of its own. Showing how the seeds of the far-right can be sown in what seems the most unlikely environment.

X FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE

Stars: David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Billy Connolly
Director: Chris Carter

Billy Connolly joins the cast, joining Mulder and Scully who are summoned back on duty to investigate a psychic priest who may know secrets about the agency. It’s an assured return with all the intrigue and spookiness of the series present and correct.
