According to our new research report titled “Indian Pension Fund Market Forecast to 2013”, with growing life expectancy and huge working population base, pension and annuity funds managed by life insurers are forecasted to grow at a CAGR of approx. 35% between 2008-09 and 2012-13.

Pension products contribution to the Indian life insurance industry will continue to rise in coming years as majority of the working population in India expects to have better quality of life or at least maintain the current living standards post-retirement. Moreover, most of the private companies in India do not provide pensions and employees typically depend on their provident fund for finance after retirement. In fact, provident fund financing in most of the cases remains insufficient to maintain the current living standards.

These pension plans are primarily targeted at the population in the age group of 35-45 years who has already completed saving for its protection needs and is looking for retirement plans. Young couples have also been found seeking retirement plans, but their number is relatively small and mainly noticed in metropolitan cities. However, the trend is gradually expanding to tier II and tier III cities.

Our research findings also reveal that pension plans account for close to 40% of the life insurance industry in terms of premium. Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) dominates the pension market while private life insurers are yet to take off. Private life insurers contributed just 7.5% to total pension insurance premium in 2007-08 but it is expected to rise to about 15% by 2012-13.

2. China Telecom Restructuring Enticing Foreign Operators
According to our new report, “Restructuring and 3G - New Dimensions for China Telecom Sector”, foreign telecom players, who have been waiting for a long time to serve the Chinese wireless market, are now considering giving shape to their plans of entering the world’ largest and highly lucrative telecom industry, China.

Various foreign players, such as SK Telecom of South Korea and Telefonica (the second largest phone company of Europe), already enjoy substantial stakes in China’s fixed-line operators, China Telecom and China Netcom. “Restructuring of the Chinese telecom industry would give these players an opportunity to bring their mobile business to the country, as the domestic partners now have access to the country’s wireless market”, says an analyst at RNCOS. For instance, SK telecom, which held 6.61% of China Unicom’s total equity before the telecom industry reorganization, is seeking suitable opportunities to raise its stake in the company.

As if to reward these moves, the Chinese government announced in September 2008 that it would relax access to its telecom industry for foreign investors by cutting minimum investment criteria by as much as 50%. We anticipate that deregulation by the government may trigger an influx of foreign investment in the Chinese telecom sector.

Also, the government’s move to finalize issuance of 3G licenses in the first week of 2009 has opened up new avenues for foreign biggies to venture into the market as the market will create huge thirst for capital among Chinese telecom operators, who are actively expanding and upgrading their existing networks in order to gain a favorable position in the country's most promising 3G environment.

The report, “Restructuring and 3G - New Dimensions for China Telecom Sector”, also studies various areas of opportunities emerging in line with the ongoing technological developments in the Chinese telecom industry. It thoroughly evaluates the current performance of domestic telecom industry, inclusive of fixed-line, mobile, Internet and broadband on various parameters, like subscribers, penetration and service providers’ share.

The research offers five-year forecast and analysis on various telecom segments, based on numerous macro- and microeconomic factors, industry specific databases, and our in-house statistical and analytical model. This report has been made to give clients an insight into the telecom market and emerging technologies, such as Mobile TV, IPTV and WiMAX.

4. Economic Crisis Unable to Stop Russia to Spend on IT
According to the report “Russia IT and Outsourcing Industry Forecast to 2011” by RNCOS, IT spending in Russia is way ahead of other Eastern European countries. Despite the recent economic turmoil, Russia will continue to dominate the IT industry landscape in the region. Although there may be some budget cut on the IT spending by the companies but it will not be enough to decelerate the IT industry growth trajectory.

Majority of the spending will be on hardware and equipments followed by services and packaged software. It is expected that the spending by SMEs will account for more than 40% of the total IT spending in Russia by 2012. 5. India will Get Power with Signing of Indo–US Nuclear Deal
The Indian government has monopoly in the nuclear power projects; hence, all the investments poured into the sector so far were made by the government only. But the rapidly increasing power requirements are aggravating the need to channel more investment into the sector. Sensing the investment requirement to secure future fuel supply for nuclear reactors, India signed a bilateral nuclear deal with European Union civil nuclear cooperation in September 2008. This deal will attract global majors like Areva and Alstom to the huge untapped nuclear market of India. It is estimated that this deal will bring around US$ 29 Billion worth of nuclear market business in the next 15 years for the French companies like Areva and Alstom.

Apart from this, post Indo-US nuclear deal, India will get access to nuclear fuel trade relationship with countries in the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG). Thus, it will bring fresh investments in the Indian nuclear industry. India is expecting a cumulative investment of US$ 45 Billion by the end of FY 2017 (starting from the FY 2008) for its infrastructure development.
