The increasing preference for 3PL services will transform the way logistic operations have been carried out in India till now, says RNCOS in its new research report, “3rd Party Logistics Market in India”. At present, the 3PL market is at a nascent stage of development, with multinational companies in all industries being the predominant users of these services. However, the domestic major companies in leading industrial sectors have also begun to follow the footsteps of their multinational counterparts, starting with outsourcing their basic logistics functions. The total revenue generated by 3PL players surpassed US$ 1.5 Billion in 2008 from mere US$ 890 Million in 2005.

As per the findings of our research, the present market scenario of 3PL services in India can’t be compared with that of developed markets like the US and Europe where the usage of 3PL services is more than 50% in most of the industries. But the Indian market offers immense growth opportunity as compared to developed markets due to improving infrastructure like highways, ports, bridges and increasing connectivity along with rising importance of logistic services.

We have identified the auto and IT hardware industry as the largest end-user industry for 3PL services. Other sectors that have shown substantial contribution to 3PL market and significant growth potential include FMCG, pharmaceutical and retail sectors. The market will generate revenue of close to US$ 4 Billion by 2012 and will result in more effective ways of implementing logistic operations in India.

While the share of 3PL services in India is far lesser than developed markets, when it comes to share of logistic cost as percentage of GDP, it is high in India and China ranging between 13% and 15% due to lack of infrastructure facilities and less focus on creating value through efficient handling of logistic services.

Our latest research report, “3rd Party Logistics Market in India”, gives comprehensive information about the current and past situation of 3PL services in India. The segment wise market potential of 3PL services is also provided in the report to help client to analyze the penetration level of new modern logistic services in various industries. The report also highlights the factors responsible for the increasing attractiveness of Indian 3PL market along with brief overview of the key players in the industry.

3. Indian Steel Manufacturers Eying Transportation & Construction Projects

Railways, automotive & transport, airports, municipal/urban local bodies (ULBs), shopping malls, new hospitals, hotels and housing created strong demand for steel in 2007-08.

5. India Insurance - Govt. Proposed to Lift FDI Cap to 49%
The Indian government has proposed to increase FDI in the insurance sector to 49%. Currently, only up to 26% FDI is allowed in the Indian insurance sector under the automatic route subject to obtaining a license from Insurance Regulatory Development Authority (IRDA). According to “Booming Insurance Market in India (2008-2011)”, a recent report from RNCOS, the Indian insurance market, particularly life insurance sector, will get a strong boost from the proposed FDI hike. Increasing limit to 49% is expected to raise the FDI in life insurance sector by around 2.5 times from the present level of approx Rs 2,500 Crore.

The senior insurance industry analyst at RNCOS opined, “The proposed increase in FDI will attract more foreign inflow into the Indian economy and strengthen the country’s insurance industry. This increase (in FDI) will bring more capital and help the sector in maintaining the growth momentum. The insurance sector has been in strong need of the capital investment, in fact, the requirement has increased dramatically due to recent losses on unit-linked products with weak stock market. Also, being a capital intensive sector, the insurance sector requires huge investments over a prolonged period of time, and therefore, there is constant need for capital infusion that can be met through FDI.”

Increasing FDI limit will also encourage the insurance sector to come up with more innovative distribution channels, enrich the current product portfolio, upgrade technology, and bring best global practices into the country. Beside this, raising FDI cap would also help insurers to expand their coverage to rural and micro-insurance segments as penetration in rural and remote areas require additional capital infusion.

“Booming Insurance Market in India (2008-2011)” provides an exhaustive research and rational analysis on the Indian insurance market. This study provides an overview on the factors driving the insurance industry, coupled with the forces which are blocking the growth. The report, based on extensive quantitative and qualitative analysis, gives forecast on vital industry parameters, like cars & commercial vehicle registrations, outbound tourists, medical equipment market, lending by financial institutions, IT spending, non-life insurance market, and health insurance premium.

This comprehensive study will help the clients to assess current market trends and identify the market dynamics and opportunities critical to their success in the country.
